Signs Your AC Is Overdue for a Tune-Up
Most systems give you warning before they quit. If you notice any of these, schedule a tune-up now rather than a repair later:
- The house takes longer to cool than it used to. Usually a dirty coil, a clogged filter, or refrigerant that has drifted low.
- Your electric bill climbed but your habits didn't. A system fighting restricted airflow burns more power for the same result.
- The AC runs almost constantly on hot afternoons. Short of a sizing problem, this is normally maintenance, not replacement.
- Some rooms are noticeably warmer than others. Airflow or ductwork, and both are worth checking before summer peaks.
- You cannot remember the last time it was serviced. If it has been more than a year, it is due.
- The outdoor unit is packed with grass clippings, cottonwood, or dust. The condenser cannot shed heat through a blocked coil.

What a Gatlin AC Tune-Up Actually Covers
Plenty of companies sell a "tune-up" that amounts to a filter change and a sales pitch. Here is what our technicians actually do on a maintenance visit:
- Check refrigerant charge and pressures. Low refrigerant means a leak, and we tell you where it is rather than just topping it off.
- Clean the condenser coil. The single biggest efficiency item on most Oklahoma systems.
- Inspect and clean the evaporator coil and drain line. Clogged condensate lines are a common cause of water damage around the indoor unit.
- Test the capacitor under load. The most common AC failure we repair, and a weak capacitor is visible on a meter long before it dies.
- Inspect the contactor for pitting and burning. Cheap to replace on a maintenance visit, expensive when it strands you in August.
- Check amp draw on the compressor and fan motors. Rising amp draw is an early warning of a failing motor.
- Tighten and inspect all electrical connections. Loose connections cause heat, and heat causes failures.
- Verify thermostat calibration and operation. A thermostat reading three degrees off costs you money every cycle.
- Measure temperature split across the coil. This is how we confirm the system is actually performing, not just running.
- Check airflow and inspect the filter. Most efficiency complaints trace back here.

How Often Should You Tune Up Your AC in Oklahoma?
Once a year, in spring, before the first stretch of 95-degree days. Heating systems should be checked in the fall. That is two visits a year for a home with both, which is exactly why we built the membership program around that schedule.
